Soviet Medals and Ribbons of the
Early Cold War
(1946-1959)

 Post-War Soviet Medals

The post-war period saw the introduction of many new Soviet awards.  Army anniversary medals continued to be awarded, and for the first time included celebration of the founding of major cities.  Medals for longevity were also introduced during this period.

Medals with ribbon suspensions were still worn in the fashion seen in the picture of Lieutenant General Korchikov on the right.

Beginning with the new uniform regulations of 1955 small ribbons were first introduced for the first time.  These ribbons were to be worn on ribbon bars on out of formation parade uniforms and on everyday/parade uniforms.

When available we will also include photographs of the award documentation that was issued with the medals.
