Medal for the Capture of Koenigsberg

Established - June 9, 1945

Number Awarded - 760,000

This medal was awarded to all servicemen of the Soviet Army, Navy, and Ministry of Internal Affairs who took part in the battle to take the fortress city of Koenigsberg. It was defended by 130,000 men. The battle began on January 23, 1945 and lasted until April 10, 1945. The victorious Red Army took 92,000 men prisoner after the city was taken.
