Su-15 'Flagon'
Interceptor in pictures

This section is dedicated to pictures of the Su-15 'Flagon' interceptor.  Our pictures are authentic and in the physical possession of the Sword of the Motherland Foundation.  All were taken by NATO pilots at some time when the aircraft was in active service.  We will add more photographs as they are acquired, but until then, will do our best with what we have.

'Flagon-F' Close Up

In this picture you can see the pilot of the Su-15 looking over his shoulder at the photographing aircraft.

This photo was taken over the Pacific on 27 December 1983.

Su-15 at low altitude

This picture shows a fully armed Su-15 flying low over the sea.  It was taken by a NATO aircraft sometime during 1986 in either November or December.  The picture does not state the location of the aircraft at the time of the encounter.

'Flagon' Tail View

Here you can see the twin engines and air brakes of an Su-15 as it attempts to out-turn the aircraft that took this picture.

This picture was also taken on 27 December 1983, but I cannot say that it is the same aircraft in the picture above.

'Flagon' Side View

In this picture you can see a Su-15 as it maneuvers past the observing aircraft.

A variety of air to air missiles can be seen, as well as many panel lines.

The trainer variant of the Su-15 'Flagon'

Here is a photograph of the rare trainer variant of the Su-15 'Flagon' interceptor.  Both the pilot and instructor positions can be seen in this picture.

The Flagon in Color

Here is a closer view of the Flagon at the top of this page.  It was the second picture in the series and was taken as the observing aircraft closed with the Flagon.

Neither photo gave the location of the aircraft or the time the picture was taken.

Underside of the Su-15

The armament of the Su-15 can be seen in this picture as the aircraft banks away from the camera.  It carries two long range radar guided missiles and two smaller short range missiles.

The aircraft in the picture is either a Flagon-E or Flagon-F variant.  This picture was taken on 25 June 1983.

The Su-15 on Patrol

This picture was taken from the USS Oldendorf, a US navy destroyer, sometime in August or September of 1987.

Unfortunately, the picture gives no hint as to where the ship was located when the picture was taken.

Another Su-15

Here we have a low contrast photograph of an Su-15 flying over the ocean.

It does not give any indication of where or when the picture was taken.
