Kynda Class / Project 58
Missile Cruiser in pictures

This section is dedicated to pictures of the 'Kynda' class missile cruiser.  Our pictures are Cold War originals that were taken at some time when the ship was in active service.  They are also in the physical possession of the Sword of the Motherland Foundation.  We will add more photographs as they are acquired, but until then, will do our best with what we have.

Soviet Navy in the Mediterranean

This picture was taken by the United States Navy in March of 1973.  It shows a Kynda missile cruiser (right), a Kashin missile destroyer (middle), and a Kara missile cruiser (left) leading the squadron.  These ships have been detached from the Black Sea fleet for patrol duty in the eastern Mediterranean sea.

The Kynda in Color

Here we have a nice color photograph of the Kynda (number 822).  Its two rear gun turrets and several missile launchers can be easily seen here.  This picture was taken by the US Navy somewhere in the Northern Pacific ocean on 8 August 1989.

A close up of the 'Varyag'

This picture of Kynda 047 shows many of the electronics and sensor systems of the 'Varyag'.  In addition to this, it also shows the details of several of the weapons stations, such as (from right to left) the RBU-6000 launcher, 'Goa' anti-aircraft missile launcher, 'Shaddock' anti-ship missile launcher, and two small AGS6-30 gun turrets along the side of the vessel.  This picture was taken by the US Navy on 5 October 1981, but no location was given.

A Composite Photo of Kynda 047 'Varyag'

These two large pictures show many small details of the Kynda cruiser.  Weapons, electronics, a small motor launch, and even the ensign at the rear of the ship can be seen here.  These pictures were taken by the US Navy on 5 October 1981, but no location was given.
