Kashin Class / Project 61
Guided Missile Destroyer in Pictures

Kashin 551 'Soobrazitelnyy' on 23 July 1982

This section is dedicated to pictures of the 'Kashin' class / Project 61 destroyer.  We would like to point out that all of our pictures are all authentic and were taken at some time when the Kashin was in active service.  We will also include pictures of the 'Mod Kashin' in this section as well.

A Modified Kashin at Sea

This photograph taken by the US Navy in February of 1970 shows Kashin number 527 at sea as it traveled in the Western Pacific.  What is interesting is that the photo was at one time classified as 'Confidential', it was later downgraded to 'Unclassified' and released to the public.  From there it made its way into the possession of the Sword of the Motherland Foundation.

A starboard side view of the Mod. Kashin

Here we have a picture of a late model Modified Kashin destroyer, pennant number 286.  Note the major differences from the early Kashin types - the raised helicopter flight deck at the rear of the ship and the four missile tubes near the aft stacks.  This picture was taken by the US Navy, but it did not state when or where it was taken.

The stern of a Kashin

Here we have a picture of Kashin number 562, also known as the 'Odarennyy'.  The details of the ship's armament can be clearly seen, from the rear gun turret, to the twin missile launcher, to the center torpedo tubes.  Several sensors can also be made out here.  The photo was taken on 9 April 1981 by the US Navy.  No location was given in the photo description.

A large composite photo of Kashin 544

These three pictures of Kashin 544, also known as the 'Sposobnyy' were a series taken by the US Navy on 4 February 1983.  They show the ship in great detail.  Virtually all of the ship's weapons systems and sensors can be seen.  It should be mentioned that the three photographs do not exactly match as the ship and the aircraft were both moving which slightly changed the angle of each picture as they were being taken.
