Uniforms and Field Gear
of The Era of Rebuilding
(1946-1959)

The uniforms of the post war era remained largely unchanged from the days of the Great Patriotic War.  The few changes of the late 1955 were short lived and largely replaced by the 1958 reforms. They primarily involved modernizing the look of the officers and parade uniforms.  It was an effort to give them the appearance of a forward-looking military, a look that they still had yet to achieve. Still, the uniforms were typically Soviet - durable, rugged, and functional.

Select the branch of service that you wish to learn more about below.  I should mention that Naval Infantry uniforms are listed in the Naval section.  The paramilitary section will cover agencies that did not fall under the Ministry of Defense (such as the NKVD and MVD).  Specialized field gear will be added in the near future.
