The Bolt Assembly

The M-91/30 sniper rifle used a conventional bolt with a special turn down handle.  This was done so that the scope would not interfere with the bolt handle when the weapon was cocked and fired.  Internally the bolt is identical to those found on other Mosin-Nagant rifles.

Sight Assembly

Here are some close up views of the front and rear iron sights.  The pictures on the left show the rear sight which is graduated out to an optimistic 2000 meters.  The top right picture shows what the sight picture would look like if you were trying to aim the rifle at something.  The bottom left picture shows the front sight, which is a simple non-adjustable hooded post.

The PU Scope

The most common scope used with the Mosin-Nagant sniper rifle was the PU scope.  It was issued with a scope cover and leather lens cap covers.  The lens cap covers can be seen in the top right picture.  To adjust the scope the shooter moved two knobs, seen in the top left picture.  The view through the scope can be seen in the bottom left picture.

Accessories

The M-91/30 sniper rifle was equipped with many accessories to keep it clean and otherwise maintain the weapon.  The cleaning kit was virtually identical to those used on other Mosin-Nagant rifles.

The picture to the right shows a basic cleaning kit and the pouch it is contained in.  Below is a oil/solvent bottle and its pouch.  The ammunition pouch in the lower right corner is an early Soviet design.  Each of the two pouches holds 15 of the 7.62x54R cartridges.  These cartridges are held in groups of 5 on stripper clips as seen in the picture.
