Weapons of
the Russo-Turkish War

(1877-1878)

No new infantry weapons were introduced during the Russo-Turkish war as the Russians had only recently decided that their standard arm would be the Berdan II rifle.  They had been focusing on mass producing this rifle and issuing it to the troops.  They were only partially successful in this goal.  Most of the troops were armed with earlier weapons by the time the war occurred.

Each weapon will accompanied by photographs, technical specifications, and a full description. We have tried to focus of the history of each weapon's development, its capabilities and limitations, and where they have been used in combat. The various types of ammunition that each weapon used are also listed and described.
