The M-1848 Lock and Receiver

This section highlights the lock and receiver of the pistol.  To the right you can see a close up of the arsenal markings and the year of manufacture stamped on the right receiver plate.  When translated the Cyrillic letters spell T.O.Z. which loosely means Tula Weapons Factory.

In the photos below you can see the lock in great detail.  For clarity we show the weapon with the lock in both its cocked and resting position.

The Left Side of the Weapon

The two pictures in this section show the left side of the weapon.  The bottom left picture is a general view of the pistol.  The bottom right picture shows the left side of the receiver housing.  This side of the weapon has a brass plate stamped with the arsenal mark and a letter.

Trigger and Markings

Here you can see the trigger section of the M-1848 pistol and the markings that were stamped there.  The trigger guard is made of brass and is fastened to the rest of the weapon by a single screw.

At the front of the trigger guard you can find an arsenal stamp and several letters beneath it.

Nipple and Muzzle

To the right you can see a close-up of the business end of the weapon.  It is a VERY large muzzle (.70 caliber) when compared with modern weapons.

Below are pictures of the nipple to which the percussion cap was mounted.  The hammer would crush the cap and ignite the powder mixture in the barrel.  We do not yet have a percussion cap to display here.
