The Sword of the Motherland Foundation is devoted to the study of the Russian military throughout various periods of history, currently going as far back as 1828.  We choose to analyze events in the context of the times that they occurred, from the position of those who were there, and do not endorse nor condemn any of the actions within this site.  History has already made its decision, we are only attempting to bring this information to you so that you may learn and make up your own mind.

The time periods that we will be discussing currently range from the 1830's to the modern era.  We have highlighted several facets of the military life for each important period.  A brief synopsis of the times will be found under military history.  Detailed information about the weapons, uniforms and field gear that were used can also be discovered on this site.  The background of various weapons designers, as well as what could be found in the civilian world of the era is discussed to a limited degree as well.

If you wish to use any of the pictures or information from our site, please ask us first.  We own all of the pictures that you will see on the site.  Our pictures are not simply scanned from Western military books like those of other sites and we would like to be credited.  Only few pictures in the Uniforms section come from a Soviet Uniforms book.  They are included only to allow you to see more detail about the uniforms described on the same page.
