Intelligence Gathering Ship in Pictures

This section is dedicated to pictures of the 'Balzam' class electronic intelligence gathering ships.  The pictures are the property of the Foundation and were all taken at some time when the ship was in active service.  More photos will be added as they are acquired by the Foundation.

The Stern of SSV-493

Here is a good view of the stern section of a Balzam AGI.  Several sailors can be seen working on the deck.

This picture was taken on 23 January 1991.  The location of the photograph was not listed.

Sensors on the Bal'zam AGI

The two pictures in this section show close ups of some of the sensors on the Bal'zam class AGI.  We are uncertain as to the names and functions of these sensors at this time, but we do know that they were mounted on ship SSV-493.  Once we determine the nature of these sensors we will more fully describe them.

These pictures were taken by the US Navy on 23 January 1991.

The crew of SSV-493

Below you can see some of the crewmembers of the SSV-493.  One of the large sensor domes can also be seen behind the sailor manning the signal light. This picture was also taken by the US Navy on 23 January 1991, but the location of the ship at that time was not listed.
