The RPK-74
Squad Automatic Weapon in Pictures

This section has many high detail pictures of the RPK-74 Squad Automatic weapon. Virtually every section of the weapon has been photographed and described. To go to a specific part of the weapon simply click on the desired section below. Some of these pages may take a little while to load.

The Front and Rear Iron Sites

The RPK has a sight system very similar to the other Kalashnikov designs.  One major difference is that the RPK has a small knob and windage adjustment.  This allows the rear site to be more carefully calibrated.  The rear site cane be adjusted out to 1000 meters.  The front site is almost identical to the other AK variants.  It and the muzzle brake can be seen in the bottom right picture.

The RPK-74 Sling Attachment Points

The sling of the RPK-74 is identical to other AK-47 series slings.  Both of its attachment points are located on the left side of the rifle.  Both can be seen, along with the unusual stock and handgaurd designs in the pictures below.

The RPK-74 Stock and Handguard

One of the more distinctive features of the RPK series are the unusual stock and handguard.  These were inspired by an earlier machine gun, and allow the user to get a better grip on the rapidly firing weapon.

The cleaning kit is the same as those found in the SKS and AK-series.  It is placed in a small spring-loaded compartment in the butt of the rifle.

These pictures are of the right side of the weapon.

The Receiver

Here are a variety of close-up pictures of the RPK-74 receiver.  The selector in the top left photo is in the safe position.  The other two possible positions are Semi-Automatic and Full-Automatic.  The trigger and pistol grip and identical to other Kalashnikov designs.  In the bottom two pictures the 45-round magazine can be seen.  The bottom right picture shows the inside of the magazine well.
