Guided Missile Cruiser in pictures

This section is dedicated to pictures of the Project 1144 'Kirov' guided missile cruiser.  Our pictures are all Cold War originals.  They were taken by NATO photographers at some time when the ship was in active service.  Additional photographs of this class can be found on the second page of this section.  More photographs will be added as they are acquired.

   

The 'Frunze' Underway

Here you can see a starboard side view of the battlecruiser 'Frunze' underway.  Its hull numbers in this photograph are '050'.  This picture does not state where or when it was taken.

               

The 'Frunze' in the Sea of Japan

This picture taken in the Spring on 1987 shows the Kirov class missile cruiser 'Frunze' as it maneuvers in the northern Sea of Japan.

A helicopter can be seen on its rear helipad.

 

   

The Heli-Pad of the Frunze

In this picture you can see the rear portion of the Frunze.  Two helicopters can also be seen, one in a ready to go position and one with its rotors folded.  The rear gun turret is also clearly visible.

This picture was taken in March of 1987 by the United States Navy.

    

Kirov #028 at sea

This picture shows Kirov #028 at sea.  Note the helicopter on the rear flight deck.  This picture was taken by the US navy, but no date or location was given.
