T-54 / T-55 Medium Tank
in pictures

Soviet Soldiers taking a moment to relax near their T-54 (with the second model turret).

This section is dedicated to pictures of the T-54/55 medium tank.  Here you will be able to find the photographs that the Sword of the Motherland Foundation has acquired in our collection.  All are authentic pictures that were taken at the time the vehicle was in service or came from period news articles.  More photographs of the tank will be added here as they are obtained for our collection.

T-55 in a NATO reference file

This photograph originally came from a 1950's Polish newspaper article about the T-55.  The article was later acquired by NATO who then made a copy of the article for their photographic reference files.  It is this copy that we now have in our possession.  It is a rather poor picture that does not show many of the subtle details of the tank, but is still rather interesting for its Cold War historical value.

T-55's on a trail

In this picture we have three T-55's moving down a trail.  It was taken by a Soviet soldier (most likely riding in the lead tank not visible in this picture) on 21 December 1966.  The location of the photograph was not listed on the picture.

T-55's in the motor pool

Here we have a high contrast photo of several T-55's in a maintenance depot.  Despite the high contrast some details can still be seen.  No location or date was given with the photograph.

Fording a frozen river

Here we have three individual pictures combined to form a panoramic view of three T-55 tanks fording a frozen river.  Also visible are soldiers in small boats assisting in the river crossing.  No date or location was given in the description of this Soviet photograph.
