Tu-95/Tu-142 'Bear'
Strategic Heavy Bomber

This section is dedicated to pictures of the Tu-95/Tu-142 'Bear' bombers and all of the many variants of this amazing aircraft.  As always, our pictures are Cold War originals that we hold in our physical possession.  They were all taken at some time when the aircraft was in active service.

Tu-142 'Bear-F'

Here we have a picture of a Tu-142 'Bear-F' variant flying over the Pacific Ocean.

No date or location was given in the photograph description.

A Bear during 'Okean 70'

This picture was taken during the Soviet naval exercise 'Okean 70'.  The Bear was flying over the Philippine Sea during April 1970 when it was spotted and photographed by the United States Navy.

Encounter over the Pacific

This photo shows a Bear bomber operating in the maritime recon role.  It is being escorted by a US Navy F-4 'Phantom II' operating from the USS Midway.  The picture was taken on 5 July 1971, but no location was given.

The Bear-J

In this photograph you can see a Bear-J from above.  Many of the wing details and panel lines can be made out.

As with many of our pictures this one doesn't state where or when it was taken.

The Bear-G

This picture of a Bear-G was taken on 13 May 1985 by an aircraft flying from the USS Carl Vinson.  The markings on the photo mention that the aircraft was flying at 29,000 feet when the picture was taken.

A view of a Tu-142

Here we have a nice rear starboard view of a Tu-142.

This picture was taken on 20 May 1991.  No location was given, but it is probably over the Pacific Ocean.

The Tu-95 Bear

In this picture you can see the large contrails that the Bear leaves as it cruises through the sky.

Although it is difficult to make out, the caption on the back of the photo says that it is a Tu-95 type Bear.

No location or date was given in the picture description.
