This section is dedicated to pictures of of the Il-2 series of attack aircraft.  The pictures are all authentic and were taken at the time the aircraft was in service.  We will put descriptions with as many of the pictures as we can so that a greater understanding of the Il-2 can be gained. As with many things on this site, we have very few pictures to show here, but more will be added as we acquire them.

 

Il-2 on a dirt runway

Here is a photograph of an Il-2 shturmovik on a dirt runway between missions.  The ground crew can also be seen in this picture. 

  

A downed Il-2

This Il-2 is being examined by German soldiers after it was shot down.  From the looks of things the air crew probably survived the landing, as the plane landed safely and they had time to open the cockpit window.
