No discussion about a nations military can be complete without showing the civilian life of the time. This is because no military exists in a vacuum, it is a product of its times. This section will try to give the reader a glimpse of what life was like during the days of the Great Patriotic War.  It will feature pictures, history, stories, and other facets of Soviet civilian life during the period between 1941 and 1945.

10 Ruble Lottery Ticket

Here we have a ten ruble lottery ticket.  These were quite common during the war years.

 

 

 

Alloy Kopek of 1945

This example is a fifteen kopek coin minted in 1945.  Like their predecessors, this coin was composed of metal alloys.

The front of the coin has the denomination centered within an octagonal shape.  The date of minting is directly below this.  Sheaves of wheat can be seen on the outer ring surrounding the octagonal shape.

The reverse shows the state seal above the letters CCCP.

This example is a five kopek coin minted in 1941.  It was also composed of metal alloys.

The denomination of the coin - five kopeks - can be seen on the front, surrounded by sheaves of wheat.

Here you can see an issue of Red Star newspaper from 10 May 1945.  Its cover story discusses the victory over the Nazi war machine and shows large pictures of the three primary allied leaders: Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill, and Harry Truman.
