This is because no military exists in a vacuum, but rather is a product of its times. This section will try to give the reader a glimpse of what life was like during the reign of Tsar Nicholas I.

Copper Kopek Coins

Here you can see both sides of several one copper kopeks that were minted in 1840 and 1842.  When issued they weighed 10.25 grams.

The front has the value (1 kopek) followed by the date and then the mint mark initials at the bottom (in this case St. Petersburg Mint).  The opposite side has the Tsar's monogram (H I).

This example is a copper half kopek coin minted in 1841.  When issued it weighed 5.12 grams.

Like the examples above, the front has the value (1/2 kopek) followed by the date and then the mint mark initials at the bottom (in this case St. Petersburg Mint).  The opposite side has the Tsar's monogram (H I).

This example is a copper quarter kopek coin minted in 1842.  When issued it weighed 2.56 grams.

Like the examples above, the front has the value (1/4 kopek) followed by the date and then the mint mark initials at the bottom (in this case St. Petersburg Mint).  The opposite side has the Tsar's monogram (H I).
